Information & Advice

Information & Advice - Cobham Children's Centre

Our information and advice point in the foyer of Cobham Day Centre is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 10 and 12, where we have a wide range of information leaflets for you to take away. We work closely with JobCentre Plus and Surrey Family Information Service to ensure you have access to the information you need. You will also meet Julie, our Centre Adviser who has a wealth of local knowledge and if she doesn't know the answer to your question then she will make sure someone is found who does! In addition, we have a range of books and DVDs on a variety of topics that can be borrowed.

You can also request information and advice via email and by phoning us - Contact Us

In addition to our own information service, we can book appointments with the Esher Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) for more specialist advice. They hold sessions for Children's Centre families on a Thursday morning at the Cobham Centre. Contact us to book a slot.

Our Outreach Service is here to provide one to one support when family life is a little challenging. We have helped families with getting back to work, health matters, finding the right childcare, housing issues and applying for grants and benefits. By meeting up with Patricia you can also find out more about groups that we or others run and think about joining them. However, it is always your choice how you would like us to support you. You can refer yourself for this service by contacting us; alternatively you can ask your Health Visitor to refer you.

Support for Childminders

We work in collaboration with registered childminders to support the delivery of good quality integrated home-based childcare to parents. We will do this by hosting a Play & Learn session every Wednesday morning where childminders provide enriching play opportunities for the children in their care in conjunction with Patricia, our Outreach Worker. Each week has a theme that includes celebration of festivals through craft, healthy eating, music and movement, shapes and numbers. We can also help parents find a childminder through vacancy co-ordination.

Family Support

Every term we run a fabulous parenting course called 'Parenting Puzzle' It is a 10 week course that encourages parents and carers to enjoy bringing up children and get the best out of family life. It offers positive, practical ways of guiding children so they learn to handle both their feelings and their behaviour. The course is informal, fun and a great confidence booster. We also offer one to one support and can signpost to other organizations for specific needs. You can also drop in to our information point and pick up 'Parenting Top Ten Tips' a pack that is based on the Parenting Puzzle course.

Opportunities for parents/carers and their children to play and learn together

Family Opportunities - Cobham Children's Centre

Every Friday during term time we run 'Friday Funtime' - a play and stay toddler group at St Andrew's Primary School. We provide a range of great toys and activities to encourage your child's development and learning. We regularly have themed sessions that focus on health issues, child safety, festivals and seasons. We also invite other agencies and organisations to provide you with information and advice. The group is a great way to get to know other families and for your children to socialise and interact. There is a baby corner too.

We regularly run parent-child art and craft workshops at various venues in Cobham, both in term time and in the holidays. We also arrange 'Fundays' sometimes in collaboration with other local organisations, for example, you will find us at community events such as St Andrew's School Fair and Cobham Heritage Day.

Family Health and Wellbeing

Family Health & Wellbeing - Cobham Children's Centre

For new parents we run a Post Natal Support Group that covers Becoming a Parent, Play & Communication and Looking after yourself. In addition to the course we offer Baby Massage & Yoga, Pram Walks at Painshill Park and First Aid courses.

We offer support to Young Parents through an informal lunchtime group. As well as getting to know other young parents you'll be able to access health services, training and financial advice through this group. We can also signpost you to specific services like Surrey's Stop Smoking Service

We can also signpost to the Freedom Programme – this is a series of group sessions for adults dealing with domestic violence situations that supports them as they take control of their lives.

Training & Employment

In addition to our information service we work closely with other organisations providing services in the local area. For example, we have supported parents to attend 'Looking good, feeling good, back to work' - a course run by the Love of Learning team. We have also helped parents attend a computing course in Cobham run by Brooklands College. We are also advised of job opportunities by JobCentre Plus.
